When playing QuickTime movies with BijouPlay, there are a few tips and guidelines that can enhance your viewing pleasure. If you keep these guidelines in mind when using BijouPlay, you will get the most out of QuickTime and your movies!
Give BijouPlay LOTS of RAM
QuickTime movies consume large amounts of hard drive space, so naturally, they would consume alot of RAM for playback as well.
BijouPlay has a default RAM consumption of 1 megabyte, which should be enough for most low data-rate movies. When playing movies which require millions of colors, stereo sound, or which are a large size, it is best to give BijouPlay at least 2 megabytes, or more if you can spare it! You can check a movies data-rate by choosing Get Info from the Movie menu.
One at a time!
Although your computer is powerful enough, and has enough RAM for playing more than one movie, you will always get your best performance from BijouPlay and QuickTime when you have only one movie playing at a time. Having more than one movie playing at a time can cause drastic performance penalties when BijouPlay is loading the movie from your hard-drive.
If you wish to play more than one movie at a time, give BijouPlay lots of RAM, and make sure you have System 7.5 or the Thread Manager installed, or only the active movie will play!
Print To Video Tips!
Print To Video is a really useful feature when saving movies to videotape, or just watching them on an uncluttered screen. Print To Video performance is best when you have given BijouPlay ample RAM to work with. When viewing movies at Double Size or Full Screen, each second of the movie uses at least four times as much RAM to play as it would in Normal Size.
In addition, performance is greatest when the movie you are Printing To Video is the only open movie in BijouPlay. This reduces hard-disk accesses, and increases performance.
